your views on Aldi and Lidl are way, way out of date.
Maybe the store you shop at is different, but unless the store closest to me (doesn't qualify as 'local') has had a major overhaul/refit/change of management/clientele in the last few weeks then my view is accurate, based on my last experience, and really doesn't justify the extra miles/time/expense/hassle to get to.

Looks like Tesco's shot itself in the foot yet again from the comments on here. But let's not forget - there are two supermarkets in particular which don't provide loyalty cards. They don't artificially inflate their prices from time to time, just to allow them to run 'half price' or BOGOF offers. They don't make you buy more than one item just to get a fair price. They just sell good quality products (usually better than Tesco) at fair prices, which mostly stay much the same every week.
The names? You guessed it - Aldi and Lidl. Tesco's nemesis.
..agree with most of the comments in this thread HOWEVER, just have to make the point that the Lidl bakery which was set up in our local store last Summer did have lots of deals ( eg 2 X 75p loaves for £1) but recently have quietly dropped them.:(
We are still using Tesco -mainly because my other half stops in on the way home from work and picks up reduced items from the meat counter for freezing -you can get some really heavily discounted items that way.:)
As to the latest Tesco Clubcard offers? No use to us now or in the future, we exchanged most of our points before Xmas on the double up boost to buy pressies and will save any that are left for next Xmas..0 -
If it means I can take the family to see Sean the Sheep, I'll be delighted. Incredulous, but delighted.
Other than that, I'll sit pat & renew English Heritage or the like.0 -

I use mine for the deals. It pays for top notch RAC cover each year, (Just me as Mr GB is with me on longer journeys & he's a competent roadside fixer if he's on his way to work.) Also our Dover- Calais ferry. Very MSE!
Majority of our points come from our Tesco credit card which we use for all fuel or supermarket, online or clothes / present / "big" shopping, including insurances - as long as there's no credit card surcharge. This is always paid in full each month by direct debit so we never pay interest or fees.Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
States in the MSE write-up that the boost is better than normal.
Better for who? I can't see a single offer which is something I'd use or want to use. I wont be using my clubcard points for anything on the list. Hope they add to the offers because right now I don't see anything being better than it normally is unless you are in one of the groups mentioned. I doubt many will take up this offer.
Having said this; with Nectar halving their points (again) and Morrisons creating a card so poor in value and Waitrose taking off the free caf! coffee, I'm seeing Tesco as the only loyalty card on offer giving something back to customers so far this year.
Tesco have never offered a points boost on standard groceries, except for occasional offers on depts such as pet food and beauty.
If you want the treat of going to the cinema then spending £2.50 in points on a ticket seems like a better deal for me when a cinema ticket is £10, so its better than a £2.50 saving on groceries.
If you would rather have the £2.50 voucher off your shopping, use your points for that, but I would rather use them for "treat" itens such as theme park tickets, cinema tickets or iTunes vouchers.
Waitrose are still offering a free takeaway coffee (or a coffee to drink in with a purchase in the cafe) and a free newspaper so thats a pretty good deal if you shop there anyway.
Sainsburys are the ones screwing the customers on Nectar points, the double-up for cinema etc has never been as good with Nectar and with the earn rate halving these will become even less good value.0 -
I've just received my Clubcard statement and I'd guess this offer's being funded by the lack of double point/money off/bonus point vouchers. All vouchers that, unlike the boost, I do/did actually use. :mad:jackieblack wrote: »Maybe the store you shop at is different, but unless the store closest to me (doesn't qualify as 'local') has had a major overhaul/refit/change of management/clientele in the last few weeks then my view is accurate, based on my last experience, and really doesn't justify the extra miles/time/expense/hassle to get to.

I'm going to try again this weekend but to be honest I'm expecting much the same as the last couple of times I've been there. In the one nearest to me the whole of the fist aisle seems to be totally taken up with biscuits and breakfast cereals, neither of which we buy and from what I've seen of the prices for tinned stuffs, sure they're cheaper than brands but they're still not cheaper than the value lines at the *other* supermarkets.
I'm specifically going to make a point of looking at the fruit and veg this time having read so much about the super six etc, etc. because they do sound like good value but I find the whole place quite depressing.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Sadly, those stores close too early for me, don't discount products at the end of the day to 75+% off, wont deliver heavy items I buy in bulk and are out of stock so often they make Tesco look like a warehouse (and going on my experiences of Tesco; this is going some!) I like the idea if Lidl and Aldi, but it rarely works out when I shop there (and this is before I consider the queues I always seem to find because I normally shop late at night at other 24 hour/late night supermarkets when there are no queues so having to shop with either are open which is normally too early for me which seems to be when everyone else shops results in queues I normally work hard to avoid!). Still progress to be made there I think!;)0 -
Sadly, those stores close too early for me, 10pm is too early for you ?
don't discount products at the end of the day to 75+% off,
Mine does discount like that but it's cheap enough you don't see the nutters fighting for them a'la Tesco's Bruiser Babes

No they don't deliver .........not sure how any store delivers if they are out of stock and the dreaded substitutes make online shopping a bit of a pain.

Between 9pm and 10pm my Aldi has more staff than customers and I've never had to queue that time of night.
I don't see any need for them to be open any later than that (or any other supermarket tbh- it's not cost effective or especially pleasant to be shopping at midnight with the drunks just evicted from the local pub. (I work a 2-11 shift and somehow still manage to find a decent time to shop avoiding those queues you are going on about). 24 hour opening has probably done more damage to the supermarket trade than anything. No-one really uses it so it just adds to running costs which are ultimately paid for by the shopper anyway.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
