Telephone Pole Rental payments

Options
Hi,

We just had someone from Barlow and Sons on the doorstep suggesting that they can track down outstanding rental payments due to us by the phone company for the telephone pole that's in our driveway.

I can't find any reference to them on the internet, other than their website. Is this a legit business? If so, why isn't anyone else doing it?

Has anyone else had money from the utility companies this way?

If the pole is in your property then you are entitled to rent if they don't pay tell them you want it removed.

The pole will almost definitely belong to BT Openreach. There, I've done their job for them!

I suspect they'd have taken their cut of the money owed to you by Openreach, and that's how they make their money.

I'd steer clear and do my own investagative work. My OH's parents have a pole in their garden and they get something like £8 a month for it!

as above the payment is for a wayleave

it depends on the agreement that was made at the time the pole was sited, sometimes they make a one off payment rather than an anual payment

    www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/contactus/wayleaves

have a look at that link and do it yourself, the company knocking your door are more interested in making money for themselves and not interested in making money for you

if the pole is only providing service to your house then no wayleave will be payable if it is a distribution point serving multiple properties then a wayleave may be payable but as i said bt like making one off payments rather than annual payments
  • Thank you all - very helpful!!
  • I get about £5/year from EON for an electric pole on my property, it's in the deeds of my house that I should get a shilling!
