Rent or Buy?

I have been renting properties for many years. I am now in my 60's and in a position to cash purchase a property if I want to.

Problem is I am alone and have no dependants to bequest a property to.

I know that I would save the rent and that the equity of the property can always be cashed in, saving the problem of whom gets the money.

Of course, at the end of the day, my will determines who gets what.

Please any advice would be welcome.

  • Hi Llwyd,
Glad to hear you can cash purchase a property, I wish I could too but I cant right now. Got two youngs( 8&5) boys and hope some day to. My advice to you is to buy if you can, dont worry about who gets what, life is for living. live life to the fullest. The thought of owning your own home and not paying anyone rent is fab, you can lock up and go on holiday. when you retire you dont have to worry about a thing
  • as you get older you may need to pay for care, I would give the inheritance away now if you can still afford to live reasonably comfortably, if leaving money has been your ultimate aim, otherwise you may not have an inheritance to leave anyway and therefore the question you ask is irrelevant.

PLEASE get some professional financial advice !
