Hi my dfs sofa was delivered in December 2012 just before I moved into my house in jan 2013. It has since caved in in one corner. Began peeling, discoulered and just generally looks a mess. It is a white leather corner couch. I have recently had a baby and been ill in hospital so have only just got round to calling them up regarding this. I called up today to be told because it's over 2 years they will send someone to have a look but I will be charged for anything that needs fixing. I need help as to where I stand because im pretty sure 2 years isn't a reasonable length of time for a 1,800 pound sofa and it is now not fit for purpose?! Please help!! Thankyou.

After 2 years (indeed after 6 months) they can require you to prove that there is an inherent fault with the sofa, and that you havent caused this damage by treating the sofa incorrectly.0 -

Exactly how does one treat a sofa incorrectly ?
By parking a car on it - perhaps ?
We had a similar problem with a DFS suite - 10 years ago - they look good when new - but rapidly deteriorate - the stuffing shifts about and the fabric covering stretches - not good quality !!
I suggest that you start by contacting DFS and log a complain, with the head office (http://www.dfs.co.uk/content/contact-us)
and then check the following thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/31001860 -
It's quite easy to treat a sofa improperly.
I was looking after my nieces who are 6 and 4 and left them in the front room with my girls who are 15 and 12. When I went in the nieces were seeing how often they could jump from one sofa to the next without falling on the floor - and my two were letting them!!
Also sofas are not made for animals to pounce on or scratch. They are designed specifically for humans to sit/lounge on, not other purpose.
Sorry OP got distracted - afraid I can't offer any advice on your rights. Hopefully someone who works in the industry will come along with some useful advice.
ETA - Sofas mentioned above were bought in DFS 12 years ago and still look great and the seats are still firm. I'm hoping to get another 12 years out of them.0 -
I have had a similar issue with Furniture Village. £2500+ sofas bought in May 2012 and looked absolutely terrible within months. Absolutely shocking response from the retailer, and even the Furniture Ombudsman inspector came out and pummelled it for 40 minutes, and stated I would need to do that every day to keep it in good condition. WHAT!!! Was never told that, or I clearly would not have bought, and certainly not at that price. I ultimately believe all these mass market sofa companies are crooks and regret the day I ever went near Furniture Village. Buyer Beware for sure.
Because I paid for the Ombudsman report OP, (which was a complete waste of time, who pummels their sofa for 40 minutes a day just to get it to look like - a £2500 sofa??), I don't hold out a lot of hope for you unfortunately.
I am now at the point of buying another two sofas. Been looking at NEXT but I dont want to make another massive mistake!!! (Although my other sofas are cheap next sofas (inherited when I bought the house) and look a lot better than my furniture village one despite being a lot older)
Good luck Op.Sorry that wasnt more help.
(Two adults at home, no kids have ever sat on my sofa, and we have two living rooms, so not been used constantly, out at work all day, so very low usage compared to most)0
