I hate shopping in town but used to be a demon for online shopping. I am gradually unsubscribing from all the tempting offers that hit my inbox. I still wander through websites and add things to my basket - just now when I see the total I close the site down without checking out. It satisfies the 'shop' element without hitting my bank balance

  • Ok so done some maths and have worked out that if i can average£345 per month between all the debtors i can finish 5 out of 6 accounts by October 16. This is achievable by cutting all unnecessary expenditure and bare minimum purchases for essentials.

It will be difficult but this way we only need to restrict ourselves for 8 months and will have spare cash to use without the need to spend it out. Just in time for Christmas!

Also as these accounts clear i will be cancelling them so I don't get back to this situation in the future :)

So here we go............ clampdown starts this month!
    D-Day Totals:
    Credit Card £260
    Catalogue 1 £1150
    Catalogue 2 £600
    Family £1400
    Total £3410.00:eek:

Best of Luck Steve! some great advice (as always) from everyone.

You can always create a 'diary' on the forum just to keep track and get motivation and on going advice.

I find creating lists of things I want really helpful, I use pinterest and amazon wishlists. I put things on there, and every month or so I go through and just delete things I no longer want. By putting it off you realise you only want things on a wim, but if you really want it you can work out a way to save for it!

keep a spend diary, once you have your spending in black and white its difficult to ignore what little bits add up to!

i have two cards account, current and first reserve. In my first reserve I keep a little cash for emergencies, I can only redraw cash and not pay for things in shop. Maybe you could set something similar up, emergency cash to get home? Then you can leave cc at home. Or a sealed envelope in wallet just for this? I sure there's lots of different ways to handle it. I always leave cards at home and only take what I need. The spending demons get me otherwise, oh that's a bargin.....

    Good luck xx

Hi, I just wondered if your partner would be able to work a little on the evenings or weekends. If she could earn £100 a week it would make all the difference to your quality of life as a family (I notice your entertainment budget is zero).

To see the effect in your benefit you can play around with the numbers on the government website ("entitled to" I think)

    Good luck
  • Thanks for all the advice and suggestions its greatly appreciated.

We had a MAJOR sort out over the weekend and shuffled a lot around to a more realistic outcome.

Cut up my credit card so once its paid that's it:)

Got cheaper contracts for the mobiles saving 20 a month.

Now for a few other areas :)
