I would spoilt the ballot but that requires a degree of interest and effort, and I have neither as their is sod all benefit to me.

Completely disagree that there is sod all benefit to you as I assume you don't live ina self enclosed bubble where things like taxes, cutbacks, and laws don't affect you, but at least you're honest about the fact that you just can't be bothered. Better that than trying to dress it up as a political stand. If you want to take a political stand, at least show up and void the paper, at least that way the political parties will get the message that there is a sense of dissatisfaction with all of them. If you don't bother turning up at all, it simply says you can't be bothered.

If everyone did that we wouldn't have a democracy, in fact, we wouldn't have anything.

But thanks for your honesty. :)

I don't live in a bubble, but tbh taxation and cutbacks don't bother me, state of the NHS/Education, I am going to be taxed regardless of who is in power and I pay according to the tax rules, and if there is a cutback that affects me, I have to accept I either have to earn more money or have a lower standard of living and in the grand scheme of things my opinion matters not one jot.
I didn't want the country to go to war with Iraq like many people but we did and the NHS and Education sectors are in a mess because of politicians who have politicised health and education and constantly change things round at great expense. Yet we still don't speak of the elephant in the room that the NHS in its current form is not sustainable.

I am not convinced we have a democracy, especially when it comes to the important decisions beyond which party is elected.

I can understand how people may feel that voting won't benefit them.

Politicians seem to focus on education, benefits, family issues, taxing the richest more or taxing the poorest less, immigration - none of which affect me directly as half of a married, childless couple on an average wage.

I can't believe that people leave the voting in of a government up to others because they don't like any government that may be voted in.

If everyone behaved that way there would be no government to not like.

It's like walking past someone falling over in the street and not helping because you don't like people falling over ......

And for the greater good .......

Your marriage is based on law, your wage is based on law, your home circumstances are based on law, you were no doubt educated somehow, you have been to the doctor, you maybe pay road tax, you buy things with pounds, you perhaps go on holiday, you are affected by the price of fuel,or bus fare, or cycle routes, you shop, you use gas, water, electricity, you pay a TV licence, or you are against this, you go to a dentist who may be private or state, you read a newspaper, you eat out in all types of restaurants, you complain about the price of fish, you worry about Ebola, bird flu, horse meat, you don't like the new housing estate, you hate traffic jams, the prisons are fair / unfair, the list is endless.

    Happy days.

I can't believe it makes you so angry. You realise you're voting for someone to go and cast votes on your behalf in Parliament, don't you?

Well clearly that won't be happening any time soon, so it's a non-issue. And even if we did have an election where nobody turned up, we'd still end up with MPs, albeit 'lucky' ones who win the drawing of lots. Might be fun to see that in action. I gather in the event that happens, and no majority actually shows itself, then the Queen sorts it out.

But like I say, not going to happen any time soon.

Yeah, in the way it is nothing like that at all.

Jagraf, I will be voting and I always do, as I have already said in one of my previous posts on here. I was just saying that I understand why some people can't see the point in voting and believe that that voting doesn't offer any benefit to them.

I'm well aware of how my vote could make a difference!

Yeah great example, I must admit I don't like to see people falling over however I would intervene and have done so, recently I tended to a young lady at a london train station who had fallen, my fellow commuters thought it appropriate to stride over her. I didn't I put her in the recovery position, called an ambulance and stayed with her until the ambulance arrived.
