Rules if I want to sell home made food at market

I'm guessing this might be a minefield.

I've been thinking about starting a business of a range of homemade dips with fresh ingredients and then starting by selling them at my local markets.

I'm looking for guidance on

rules about preparing food in the home for selling

rules about selling fresh food at a market

I'm guessing the first will cover hygiene and use of the home kitchen and refrigeration

The latter I'm thinking will cover transportation, keeping the food fresh whilst on sale, what needs to be worn (ie gloves? hat?)

My other business idea is for a dinner party service where I take and prepare meals in other people's homes - what would be the rules for that?? I think I'd need public liability insurance?

It really is at the first stages of 'thought' so any help will be useful.

For the food side of things I think you'd need to contact your local Environmental Health dept at the council. You'll need to do Food Hygiene training, and I think they'll want to inspect your kitchen. I'm sure they'd advise you about all aspects of it.

businesslink would be helpful for all other aspects of running a business!

    Good luck.

    cheers Sue.

I've found a couple of documents and it seems the FSA have a leaflet.

I think it is going to be a minefield and I might have to shell out a lot of money touse my own kitchen for commercial purposes.

I'll give the council a ring though and see what they say.

There is the Country Market scheme. I think it was a spinoff from the WI markets:

You do need to take a food hygiene course:
