Hey everybody, I'm new here. So please bare with me for any mistakes I may accidentally make.
A position has just come up in my work place and i'm torn between applying for the job or not. I'll get in to the pro's and cons now. The pros pout number the cons but the cons are important figures.
Cons:
Don't know why i've posted this here. I guess because I don't kow where i would start with claiming benefits or if it would even be worth it to drop down from 30hours aweek to 18 hours.

Cons:
- I don't know where I will be financially.
- I won't feel like I'll be fully supporting my family by only working 18 hours.
- I'll be taking a minor pay cut by £2.50ish p/h for not working the night shift
- Won't feel like i'm setting a good example to my kids by working so little.
- A fair amount of bills coming out of my account.
- I will be working during the day time.
- I won't be working as much, so i can help my OH with the house work and the kids.
- I won't be as stressed.
- I won't feel like I'm killing myself for nothing.
- I'll have more free time.
- I'll be able to sleep at night.
- My first day off won't be wasted because i feel so tired or spend it sleeping.

Thank you for your reply. in order.
No
I think it's at most £1 over minimum wage (work at tescos isn't all it cracked out to be.)
We have 2 one 2.5 and the other 3 months
Currently get WT £33 and Child Tax110
And that's all looking at sorting out the CB form today.0 -
So would be better off for me to stay in my current position or ask if it can be upped to 24 instead of 18. Thank you for your time.0

Have you sat down and worked out a proper budget on the new income? I wouldn't be making any decisions until I knew exactly what my income would change to, and whether I could live on it or not.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
So basically, you want to be lazy and claim benefits rather than work for a living...
unreal...
I do believe you've not read every thing i have posted. i have said i will work over time if and when it is available. if by being lazy you mean not wanting to come home feeling like !!!! every day hardly ever spending quality time with my kids. Barely having a relationship with my OH Always tired among other countless things.
Oh and another pro. Working to live not living to work.
If I wanted to be lazy I'd just quit my job full stop and go on the dole. and not spent the last 5 years of my life working a job that make me miserable.
Lastly i've only ever spent less than 1 year on dole. and that was between jobs twice.0 -

30 hours a week and overworked - many people would consider that to be part time?0

This is what today's benefit system allows people to do........
My husbands career meant he spent months away at a time,he did it to support his family..Now in a different job, spends time away but works his backside off to provide a good life us all....
He has not always enjoyed it but has done it for his family.....He would rather drop dead than reduce his hours and let the government do what he says is his job to do...
There are men and woman desperate for a job or looking to increase their hours because they have pride in providing for their families....
Then you have the idiots who for no other reason than'want to spend more time with the family' who are willing to take the handouts that this country keep throwing at them......They should be penalised if they choose this route, lifestyle change fine but do it out of your own pocket....0 -

30 hours a week...if he is working 5 nights that's only 6 hours a night....if he is working the 30 over less nights either way why on earth can't he spend time with the kids...
How does he think permanent night shift workers do it....and nurses etc will be doing 12 hour shifts not a piddling 6 hour jaunt...
Can anyone tell I'm a little irate:D0 -
I can't believe what I've just read here. I assume you are young, you want to work 18 hours a week and claim working tax credits, and your wife doesn't work? If everyone decided to do this then where would we all be. It is your job to support your family I'm afraid, not everyone else's. Anyone with any self respect wouldn't even come out with that silly comment.
If you can afford to work 18 hours a week without any benefits other than child benefit go for it, otherwise wise up!0
