Removing Halifax from credit file

Hello, I'm after some advice on how to remove something from my credit file. I'll try and make the story brief.
Essentially when I was 18 I got a new job and was asked by the employer to go to the bank and get a print out of my account details in order for them to pay me. In the bank (Halifax) I was told the bank account I had was no good due to it previously being a child's account that was updated to a normal account.
They then opened a new account for me and I didn't think anything about it. I ended up not using the new account due to needing to hand the details in on my next shift and not having the new card on me. I used the old account instead which was obviously fine.
Fast forward a few months and I received a statement with charges on for unauthorised overdraft on the new account. Essentially it was a Halifax Premium reward account that cost £15 a month. Obviously with never using the account it was going into the overdraft with the £15 a month and then the charges on top.
I was never told about the cost of the account and argued it with Halifax for months and months to the point where I ran up an overdraft of charges for near £500 the Halifax charges are insane.
Eventually they froze the account and I had to pay the money off monthly to repay the "debt". This is obviously on my credit file and looks really bad. Recently this account has re-appeared on my credit file saying I owe them £19. The reason for this being I was paying £20 a month and the final payment was £19 so the final £20 was never taken.
I contacted Halifax via a text chat in order to get a phone call back so I could figure out how to pay the £19. I received a phone call the next day where the gentlemen explained that he had looked into my account and I should never have been given the account and he agreed it was miss sold and refunded me all the money I'd paid them. I asked about the £19 and he said not to worry about it.
Now this is still on my credit file and obviously makes it look bad when realistically I don't think this to be my fault. Through this whole thing I had horrible service from Halifax up until this last gentlemen.
Can I write to them and have it removed etc? I don't even mind paying the £19 as long as it's removed. I want to get a mortgage in the next few years and don't want this holding me back.
Thanks. Carl.

Complain to Halifax giving your reasons and tell them that if not removed you will be taking the matter to the Financial Ombudsman and the ICO at the appropriate time.

If Halifax have admitted they are at fault ask them to put a notice of correction on your credit file.
It can take up to a month to update however, but that should help.0 -

No because it would show that something's been removed a correction saying words to the effect that the debt was raised in error is actually better. If it can be removed without showing what is in effect a gap then obviously this would be better.0
