We didn't need a private rental market, we had council housing.
Now we have next to no council housing and a bunch of greedy investors chucking people out of their homes at the drop of a hat.
I know this may sound controversial after more years of neoliberalism than anyone can remember, but it actually isn't some pre-defined duty of the working class to have to make already wealthy people richer through property.
Ten million renters wont be silenced.0 -

Do you know why utility companies haven't cut their prices with the fall in wholesale prices?
I've never seen bread prices change by the week. In response to market prices for grain.
Why hasn't every company cut their prices as production and delivery costs have all fallen significantly.0 -
I think rent controls will define what a landlord really is, more someone that actually provides property as a business, and less an everyday Joe trying to blag someone into buying them a house

So you would be extremely confident that if Labour lose the Gen Election, the gas and electric companies would finally pass on the wholesale cuts we have been experiencing? You make it sound like the energy companies are always giving us healthy discounts. Or at least reflecting market changes fairly. Naughty Labour, trying to stop them from doing the right thing.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Your post isn't saying anything, you say we had council properties so we didn't need a private rental sector, then in the very next sentence you say that they have all but gone, so in fact we do currently need a private rental sector.
The only person that I 'chucked out of their home' was someone who hadn't paid the rent, and had been in arrears for 2 years, yes that is correct, your 'drop of a hat' actually took 2 years because I kept giving them another chance to pay me, despite in the end having enough funds to buy their own home. Actually it was the magistrates court that 'chucked them out of their home'.
EDIT: The last excuse she gave for not paying the rent was 'I had to pay the solicitor an advance payment on their conveyance fee', oh well that's OK then (not).
