Well done for taking such a big step :D

I am on month 4 with CCCS and only wish I had done it many months sooner ;)

Interest has stopped on all but one of my debts and the one that is charging interest has reduced it to less than a third of what it was (so is now lower than any loan I could have acquired even with half decent credit rating). So now all my debts are going down and I am finally learning how to budget and put money aside for car tax etc ;)

Advice needed please! Am in process of starting DMP with CCCS and have just been turned down by Halifax for bank account due to credit score surprise surprise! I'd already applied before reading the threads re bank accts and bad credit scores so...you live and learn. Does anyone know how stringent Yorkshire Bank are re credit scores for their Readycash account and does anyone know anything about this account. Need to be able to pay cash into the account as Dh is s/e and takes his wages out of the cash he collects weekly from his customers. All my info needs to be with CCCS by end of next week and I'm being seriously impaired by the PO strikes! God bless you posties, you do a fab job , but give me a break!!!

Do you have to use Yorkshire Bank?

Nationwide do an account that doesn't require a credit check, you have to apply in branch and specifically ask for the account that doesn't require the credit check otherwise they will automatically try and open the next one up that does.

I have a Natwest Step Account which is a basic account, there is no O/D facility or cheque book but you do get a solo card.

I've been turned down by quite a few banks too, so maybe give one of these a go.

Good luck with your DMP, there is a DMP mutual support thread on this board, maybe pop in there and say hello.

    Speak to you soon

    Hi There

We commecned our DMP with CCCS last Sept. If you have any worries or concerns you can always talk to them, and you will feel so much better about things once your DMP is up and running. The main thing is you have faced up to debt and are doing something positive about it!

    Good luck! ;)

Payplan have a handy list of basic bank accounts you can try if you don't have any luck with Yorkshire bank - link here

Like Jo says - make sure you go for a basic account with no credit facilities or they'll automatically try to upgrade you to a current account.

Jo- our mortgage is with a subsidiary of Nationwide and although we're not in arrears we have made some late payments so i'm a bit concerned about the connection between them in case that affects our application, thanks anyway. I'm really panicking now, I've rung CCCs and am waiting for our counsellor to ring back, thought it'd be good to ask their advice too. Thanks again,

IA- thanks for your kind words, I've been following your thread since last week when I joined MSE, yours was one of the first I came across! It sounds a bit like having a stalker when I say "following your thread", i'm not, honest

Try the Natwest one then, you can apply online. I applied and found out that I'd been accepted within 24 hours and trust me my credit file is shot!

Make sure it's the Step Account that you apply for

I've just looked at the list an nearly every bank is assocaited with another! Looks like Yorkshire bank or Nationwide. Need to have a branch near to home so we can pay money in, or at least be able to pay in at PO. Thanks for your help everyone, I'll ley you know what happens

We have one account with Yorkshire bank and the online banking is one of the poorest I have seen, we struggle to find a bank open on saturdays for banking and they don't use post offices. We have had trouble setting up direct debits and even ordering cheque books I am glad I don't relay on them for my main account.

I have no experience with Nationwide.
