Uhm, you withdrew cash from your credit card? You ALWAYS get charged for this, a fee and interest at a higher rate than purchases. As for the limit, yep, that's also something that's quite normal.
Got £820 back from HSBC! Now entering comps like mad with the hope of winning a nice long holiday....

This isnt 'news' as all credit cards will charge you a fee for taking money out of an ATM. You should have used the Nationwide Debit card rather than the Credit card if you wanted to get money out.

You dont say which card you used. Dont use CCs for cash, end of story.

Better to get yourself a Nationwide Flexacount with debit and/or credit card for fee-free foreign cash and spend.

OP is saying that his credit card was in credit, therefore it wasn't a cash advance therefore he shouldn't have been charged, if I interpret what he said correctly. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way with most if not all cards. It's a fee for a cash transaction, not for borrowing (or not) the money.

But look on the bright side.

With any luck he won't have been charged any interest - depending on the timing of the statement and if there is a residual balance. And he won't have been charged an exchange rate loading
