Elephant Car Insurance

Has anybody got any experience of using Elephant? I've just got a weirdly cheap quote.

I'm 24 and my Fiancee is 22, neither of us have ever had a car insurance policy in our own names, only named drivers but I have been driving 7 years. Neither of us have points etc.

The car is a 2.2ltr sports saloon and we've been quoted around £800. Is this about right? I'm about to order the car and want to make absolutely certain I can get insured for this price before signing anything.

I've rang them and it's seems legit, I was just expecting a much bigger premium.

    Been with them 13 years.
Car may be uncommon, so less about, less claims for it.
Years ago I was quoted £600 for an M3, £300 for a supra tt - not many on the road so few claims.
They're usually the cheapest or near enough for me, and that's since I was 21.
Try mother as named driver, still brings mine down with them.
Also they are cheaper going through a comparison site, as I tell them every year and have to listen to their bullshit as to why.

    It might be about right.

    My old car was a 1999 Corsa B with a whopping 68bhp out it's old 1.5TD

When i changed to a 2006 Ibiza FR TDi with 130bhp, my premium stayed the same.

Both were around the £700 mark
All your base are belong to us.

Elephant are part of the Admiral group.

I've (mostly) swapped between Admiral-Elephant-Bell over the years for the best prices, the paperwork and cover is the same - except for the branding.
  • Elephant were good for me too when I was younger. They did a 10 month bonus accelerator policy at the time. Not sure if they still do now.

    Get quotes from comparison sites....

but considering your age and lack of NCB it sounds cheap.

You can put any elderly person with a driving licence on the policy (no need to be a parent) and it will reduce the premium so long as that person has no recent claims/convictions. My son was always adding his grandma as a named driver; I don't think she even knew but it saved a few bob in premium. Doesn't make sense to me but 'the quote computer doesn't make mistakes' as they are fond of telling us.

I knows that, that's why I asked for his mums details.;)
  • Most the Admiral group policies are basically cheap and cheerful.

Had a fault claim whilst under one of their sister brands and it was dealt with ok. They did try to put barriers up to using own garage but that was easily overcome by my own garage.

They do have a bad habit of farming all non-fault claims out to credit hire/ repairs as soon as you contact them (Albany) and are by all accounts very reluctant to take on cases themselves but then if you are non-fault you probably will be wanting to claim directly from the TPI anyway if you are savy.
