Carpet fitter ripped off skirting boards

We had carpets fitted today but the skirting boards have been ripped away from the walls all around our bay window and one of the alcoves. We had just done that room and so I am devastated.
I called the carpet fitters as soon as I saw and the manager said it was because we used a "no more nails" glue rather than nails. Surely not? in some places the wood has remained attached to the walls and it has ripped the wood. They're coming round tomorrow to have a look. Any advice?I have pictures but it won't let me attach because I'm a new user.

Why would they be removing the skiting boards ?0

Put the skirting boards back on the wall?0

Maybe the skirtings were knocked out of place due to their poor fixing and instability, when they were using the carpet stretcher?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I wish you good luck with your problem, but wouldn't it have been a good idea to have mentioned the damage before the fitter left?0 -
Even if nails were used....why would the skirting need to be removed?0

I think the suggestion is that it is the skirting that wasn't fixed with nails and it almost fell off when the fitters went near it.
Of course I might be totally wrong.
Its just with him saying they have been ripped away he's making it sound like they have forcibly removed them.....0 -
Sounds like the skirting aint been packed between the floor surface and start of the plaster, the gap is left to prevent damp travel from floor into wall etc.
The skirt has then been glued on and the fitters have used the stretcher and resulted in the top edge of skirt coming away from the wall.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
The problem is most likly poor fitting of the skirts NOT poor fitting of the carpet. a correctly fitted carpet will exert uneven pressure to the bottom of the skirts, so if the boards arnt fitted correctly will cause the to come away at the top (and in extreme circunstances pop off compleatly). usually caused by a combenation of clued skirts (they should always bee nailed/screwed) and blaster not going all the way to the floor leaving a void behind the boards.
To point out the the few people that have commented the "stretcher" (its called a knee kicker) cannot cause this. Its caused by the wedging effect of forcing the carpet between the gripper and skirts.
fyi im a carpet fitter of 20 years experence and popping skirts is very common (proberlly happens once a month or so and most common on diy renovations)0 -
#10 this seems the most likely and on a side note, may i just applaud the skills of time served skilled carpet fitters. A newly fitted and well fitted carpet is a wonderful sight and smell. I just had my hall stairs and landing done by a local independent store and i was simply amazed at the quality of the job for what seemed like a very tricky stairs and landing..even gave a tip,,which is something rare for a tightwad like meFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry).
