bank charges re-claim

Hi everyone.

Ok, where to begin:

Untill recently I didn't realise I was being charged for a wonderfull account from Natwest!!

Going right back to 2001.

I only found this out when I called to replace a lost card. Needless to say I was furious!

I complained, after they didn't call as promised( though they did take the trouble of sending me marketing material through the post on this wonderfull account and its benefits).

Anyway, the upshot was an offer to refund for the period from 5 March 2001 through July 2009. The offer was £1765.44

I queried this most generous offer of a return of my money.

Natwest then stated that I had been informed in the following months of charges and benefits on this wonderfull account :

July 2009- No actual date stated.
March 2010- No actual date stated.
Jan. 2013- No actual date stated.

When I queried this and asked for evidence the response was:
1. Those documents don't exist!
2. Insistence in a clear understanding on my part brought forward: those are internal documents.

Smelling a cornered rodent here, I insisted that they send me copies of whatever they allege they sent me. This brought forward the response, "we will reopen the case".

So several weeks later, today, the official line is they reject my complaint and go to the Ombudsman!!:

My response: Bring it on, I still want sight of these alleged docs. and not only that, lets go to the small claims court on this and have a precedent set.

In addition to this, I have requested all bank records, lets check and see if these charges caused other fees which they may have ignored.

In the meantime, I shall enjoy the portion of my cash refunded,
whilst I wait for the said docs. and prepare the case for the Ombudsman.

So, lets go after the thieves!

Thieves don't send you statements every month showing the money they have stolen from you.

  • Until recently I didn't realise ...
    Says it all really

What a load of old rubbish. This is the most unbelievable post that I've ever read on MSE. Are you telling us that they were charging you for £14 years and you didn't realise? Pull the other one.

Please tell us that you were checking your bank statements all these years. What did you think the monthly entry for charge meant on each of the 150+ occasions it appeared? You'll need to generate a more effective case before I'd suggesting investing in court proceedings
