No, the information is not 'freely available on the USS website as my additional contributions don't come under any of the stated categories.

And no, UCU can't help. There is some sort of agreement between my university, and the USS regarding PT employees - but neither of them can/will give me information.

Compared to the lovely TPS, it's appalling customer care.

ETA USS did reply to my letter - by producing info about my FT role and future benefits, and advising me I could do that myself on their website! Grrrrrrr

Two minutes and a little help from Google finds this information within the scheme rules: http://www.uss.co.uk/schemerules/schemerules2140/Pages/30Multipleappointments.aspx

There is also a handy fact sheet for multiple appointment members here: http://www.uss.co.uk/Factsheet%20List/Factsheet%2014-%20Multiple%20Appointments%20FS.pdf

All freely available on the USS website! :D

When I was in UCU's predecessor, AUT, its efforts on the subject of pensions were abysmal. I'm interested to hear that things have improved.

    They haven't.
UCU have done very little (to be fair, I'm not sure that much could be done if the deficit is real) and communication/information is poor.

They are also supposedly renegotiating the PT lecturer terms and conditions...but the least said...

UCU is not my union but I regularly consult their website for information and updates about USS and I always find it very helpful.

Are you even a member? They managed to negotiate a number of considerable improvements to the employers original proposals for USS changes! For example improved accrual rate from 1/80ths to 1/75ths, increased DB/DC threshold from £40k to £55k so that most members will still get all their pension from the DB section, amongst other improvements.

Are you employed by the OU by any chance?

    That's lovely - except it doesn't count as a MAM. :p
    Thank you for trying though.

Devil knows; I'm sure I dont!
I have been given the following information (about my PT pension contribution)-
    1. Pt salary earned does not count as salary so for the purposes of future benefit calculations, only my FT salary is used.
    2. I pay 7.5% contributions on both FT and PT roles.
    3. I *think* the plan is that they'd divide my monthly PT pension payments by my FT monthly pension payments x 365 days and add that on to my service. Never had that in writing though, nor can I find it. Perhaps you'll have more luck?! :D

Who told you that you aren't a MAM and on what basis? I reckon you've been given duff information.

USS told me verbally, but no clue as to what I am (aside from an irritant :D).

So basically, I'm paying around £100 monthly but have no information how (or whether) this will benefit me in any way as it is excluded from all records, and all calculations.

    Fantastic, eh? :D

Hence why I'm wondering whether to stop paying, and save it.
