Hello everyone,
I would be interested to know what people on here think about share to buy schemes? I currently live in London, and so obviously have no hope whatsoever of buying a property outright.
Thanks,
Jo.

You mean shared ownership.
Share To Buy is the name of the outfit which got the gig to run shared ownership in London.I am a mortgage broker. Well ok, doesn't make any difference to the question I'm asking. I would like to know if anyone has any experience, good or bad, which might give a bit of insight into whether or not it's a wise investment.0

Ok there's no need for that kind of snarky comment; if that's your idea of 'help' then no thanks, I don't want it. Maybe you'd like to remind yourself of forum etiquette before posting remarks like that.0

"Snarky?"
I answered you honestly in my first reply to help you get information on the subject you were looking for.
As a specialist newbuild mortgage broker, I handle shared ownership and shared equity all the time and understand how people confuse different things.
Your response, in my opinion;-
was "snarky" if I correctly understand your use of this word, so I explained why I had corrected you to help you get the information you require.Well ok, doesn't make any difference to the question I'm asking
If you've taken offence at;-Still, I'm sure you know best so I'll leave you to it
I apologise profusely for offending your tender sensibilities and wish you well in your search for information on share to buy and your new home.I am a mortgage broker. OP, I know the guidance here says "be nice to newbies", but you have just offended the most knowledgeable and helpful person on this Board in the area you want advice. I suggest you start over.
One other thing, if you use the search function and look for "shared ownership" you will find many previous threads on the subject that should help you.0 -
Yeh, but I would only have been useful for the factual stuff about SO and mortgages, where the OP wants opinions on investments, which I wouldn't go anywhere near.I am a mortgage broker. Investments? No, I'm looking to buy a share in a property to live in. Of course in an ideal world I would like to be able to get a mortgage on a whole property, in the normal way. But that just won't be possible in London unless I win the lottery. Even then it would have to be a rollover.0

What's an OP?0

I'm clearly not some kind of investor. I meant 'investment' in the sense of, is this a good way of getting on the property ladder in London.0
