Changing conveyancing solicitors

Hi need advice please.
We have been using a conveyancing solicitors and they have been Cowboys from day one and it has ended with our chain breaking down. Today I have found a forum on here detailing the same problems we have had. So we need to change.
Has anyone had to change solicitors and if so how did you go about this and did you have to pay fees to the solicitor you was unhappy with?

I have changed solicitors. I found one that I wanted to change to, got them to send me a quote plus all of their terms and conditions to read through and then told the original one that I was going to change to another firm. I had a no sale no fee agreement with the first one and they hadn't done more than sending out initial paperwork. I think it will depend on the contract which you signed with them and how much work they have actually done, that will determine if you owe any fees to them.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal.
