are there any websites which give you a rough indication how much a house on a particular st is worth?

A house that is on the current market can have different values, 3 out of the 4 values below usually agree!
1. estate agents
2. vendors
3. buyers
4. surveyors
The important one is the value of the house to YOU.Z

Don't forget there's also the value of the house in material terms.
Today, a house that costs just £60K to build can now fetch upwards of £200K.
How crazy is that?0 -
I don't think your £60K includes the purchase price of the land for building on. Self-build plots in an established suburban residential area can be pretty pricey.Today, a house that costs just £60K to build can now fetch upwards of £200K.

The price of the house itself is not always directly related to the building itself.
You are paying for the land (which can cost more than the phyiscal building) as well as the bricks and mortar (or wood or stone or whatever the property is made off).
Sometimes to rebuild the house would cost more than the price you pay but more often than not it would cost about half the purchase price to rebuild.
A house is worth what someone will pay for it.0
