Help for student parents?

Options
Hi,

My partner and I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and we would both like to go to University. We are eligible for the tuition fee loan and maintenence loan. We are just trying to clarify if we are both eligible for the special support grant, parental learning allowance and child tax credits? I know that we would not be able to claim both tax credits and child care grant. We both need degrees to progress further in our fields so we are ring to figure out if we can make it work financially. I've also been told that we may get income support as we are both studying but the information I've found online is conflicting.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi,
If both you and your partner were students, you'd both get the special support grant and parents learning allowance depending on your income.
You could get the childcare grant as well as child tax credits but not if you were claiming the childcare element of working tax credit.
    Hope that helps :)
