Hi,
I cancelled by gym membership online in December by simply cancelling my direct debit instruction.
I received an email today wanting £48 (2 months fees) Jan and Feb as I hadn't officially closed it with them and they want me to fill out a cancellation form.
I obviously don't want to pay these fees so am I able to just ignore it? Or will I eventually have to pay? cheers!!

When you joined there will have been a contract you signed which had terms and conditions, including the cancellation procedure. Almost certainly this will not have been by way of cancelling your payment. Read the contract, follow the cancellation procedure and pay the amount you owe to date. If you ask them nicely they may waive some of their fees if they can tell from their records that you haven't used their facilities since your initial attempt at "cancellation", but this would be a goodwill gesture on their part.0 -

Cancelling your payment is not the same as cancelling your contract. Unless someone at they gym had advised you to the contrary doing so has no affect on your obligation to pay. Sadly you now owe them the money - unless you can plead your case, seek some goodwill, or demonstrate that you indicated your desire to cancel.0 -
Why didn't you cancel as per the contract ?
You owe the fees.0 -
It's like a mobile phone contract - let's say you can get an iPhone for £500, or £50 on contract. After 6 months, if you stop paying, does that cancel the contract? Nope, not paying doesn't end a contract, it just means you're behind on your payment!0

Is it definitely Nutfield and not Nuffield?0
