Credit card eligibility checker isn't infallible

I've always assumed the eligibility checkers overestimate your chances of being approved. It's in the lenders' and MSE's interests to maximise the number of applications and a higher % on the eligibility checker will encourage people to do this. There is no money to be made by telling people they have a low chance of approval.0

Don't forget people are probably more likely to come on here and complain if they were in the percentage of people declined, than if they were in the percentage accepted.
10 people apply, each with a 50% chance of acceptance; 5 are accepted, 5 are declined. I imagine the 5 who were declined would be the ones shouting about it on here.0 -
HD Decisions isn't a CRA though. As I understand it, all they do is get a copy of your files from Equifax & CallCredit and then, based on their working relationships with, for example, "Barclays, Barclaycard, Sainsburys, RBS, NatWest and MBNA", take a stab at whether you'll be accepted or not.PeacefulWaters wrote: »The CRA behind it doesn't know the exact specifics of the card issuer's underwriting criteria. They don't have access to your internal record with that card provider.
