O/S Daily Wednesday 4th February 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, looks cold and frosty. The laying snow we did have has almost disappeared, but the roads and paths are very icy, so rather dangerous roads and paths here.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work.
I’ll be waking DS2 shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was pasta carbonara – bit of a made up recipe by me, but was completely edible and clean plates all round. Tonight should have been beef stew and dumplings but I forgot to get the meat out to defrost, so will be getting chicken out before I go to work and then I‘ll make chicken in sauce with egg fried veg rice, and beef can be for tomorrow night – as long as I remember to get it out tonight to defrost!
Only working until lunchtime today, then will come home and do all the jobs that need doing, and I have a nail appointment later.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Cold again but not complaining much as it is dry! There is still frozen snow lying in the garden from last week, it's taking its time to thaw!
DW emptied, washing on racks as I don't have time to get it in this afternoon, I will have to rush home from work and go out again as I am going with some work colleagues to see To Kill a Mockingbird at the theatre in Glasgow. Quite looking forward to it, just hope I can stay awake long enough. I did manage to make it to 10pm last night (just) so I should be ok.
DD can have lo pasta for her tea, I am eating out. Last night was easy baked pots with cheese, trying to use up fresh stuff in the fridge as we are away at the weekend.
DG - Hope you arrived safely and are enjoying some sunshine.
Hugs to anyone in need. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Cold and frosty here again we had a few snow flurries yesterday but not enough to settle, they have said we might get more today.
Off to work today Wednesday is a busy day with lots of clients and some quite challenging ones so always goes quickly.
Dinner tonight is some fish fillets, I think it might be lemon sole but I will have to check, was going to do it with some tiny new potatoes parboiled and then roasted in garlic butter and some peas / roasted tomatoes.
Day off tomorrow and I have the dentist which I am actually looking forward to, I have a filling which has come out and wedged itself down the side of the tooth next to it ! I have tried everything to get it out but it wont budge, so I hope he can do it tomorrow !
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
A quite balmy minus 2 here, no more snow, no rain and the promise of some winter sun.
At my desk eating breakfast and not looking forward to a day long meeting - I get so bored and restless. I'm at the stage of my working life where I just want someone else to do the boring meeting, have the long and pointless discussions (which turn into arguments) and then tell me what the decision is. I can them get on...
No plans tonight as I've slept fairly badly the last couple of nights so hopefully will crash out this evening. That I am looking forward to!
Hope everyone is doing well/better and keeping warm.0 -
Morning all hope everyone is well. No further snow since Saturday morning thank goodness. I think we had more than our share last week and we still have it lying frozen to prove it!
We had a lovely day out yesterday. First Ilkley and onwards to Otley. My favourite charity shop there (St Gemma's) didn't let me down - a big spotty scarf, a kids computer game, 2 DVDs and a cookery book for £3.77 in total. A bargain too on the market - a bag of 6 red peppers for £1. They will make a huge pan of Red Pepper & cream cheese soup but I need to buy some low fat garlic and herb cheese first! Aldi do a good one and I shall be shopping there tomorrow.
It was a lovely sunny day too and the sun felt really quite warm. We had late lunch in 'Spoons - the Steak Day offer which was lovely.
Well after two days gallavanting and dining out we are staying put today and catching up on a few jobs! Some hm soup and pieces of quiche defrosting for lunch and shortly I am putting the slow-cooker on to make a batch of Savoury Mince Beef - some of which will be for dinner tonight. If it's as nice weather-wise as yesterday we are hoping to have a walk up to the moors after lunch.
Mr TA is keeping well and still no side-effects from the new injection so hoping he will stay that way for a long time. Have a good day all and hope you are escaping the snow, Take care x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
¡Hola! Thanks Camelot arrived safely and sat out and had lunch in the sunshine. Unfortunately I have managed to start with a cold/cough just before we set off, which has annoyed me through our travels, I don't feel too ill, just discomfort when I cough. I brought various pills and potions with me, but presume I will just have to let it have its fussy out.:mad:
We took an extra night south of Valencia, so we could arrive at lunchtime and warm the bed up, while never freezing here, a bed not slept in since the end of November is not "aired", so let some sun in, then last night put the air con on heat to air it out. Had a lovely nights sleep inbetween the coughing bouts:eek: I rarely secombe to a cold these days with the extra sunshine, and am a terrible patient when it do, as you can tell.
I took advantage of the latest Martin negotiated energy deal via The Cheap Energy Club It is very easy to use if you haven't tried it yet.
Need to go food shopping today, got some cooked mince and veg in tomato (think it was more veg than mince) out of the freezer yesterday which we had with some spaghetti, to make an easy Spag Bol, and the freezer is looking decidedly bare, plus need fresh basics, and bread.
Hope the snow and cold, are on their way away from you now. We will have some impact from the cold air here, but looks like we shall still see some sun.:D:D and usually at least 10C warmer than home. Take care everyone. ((Hugs)), spoons & positive vibes, grab a handful as you pass. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Good morning everyone
We still haven't had as much as a flake of snow much to the kids disappointment around here. Freezing cold though, my thermometer said 15 degrees where I sit on my computer so will be digging out my fluffy cardigan in a minute.
Poor hubby has gone off to work but he is struggling with a cold, nothing major but enough to make him grumpy and irritable so I am being extra nice and cooking his favourite curry tonight to try and blast some of those germs away. I am staying at home as I have a musclefood delivery coming today and I don't like to have it hanging around for too long. DD12 is making chilli con carne in school today, I really hope it is going to be edible as it is quite expensive to make. She is a pretty good cook on the whole though so I am optomistic.
I have loads of washing to catch up on so I will go and get on with it. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to. Take care xx0 -
Hi everyone,
DH has gone off to the dentist - 3rd visit this year to try to identify the tooth that caused him so much pain at Christmas. It's between two but I'm starting to think that if it's so hard to identify why does he need root canal work on it?
I've been sorting out some kitchen cupboards. I've been following the Kondo thread so I finally brought myself to get rid of the fondue set we bought in France 14 years ago and have used once. I also went through my herbs and spices expecting they'd be wildly out of date, but they weren't, except for 2 jars of rose harissa I've never used. I've become much better over the past few years at ignoring special ingredients that only get used once or twice.
Have a good day.0 -
Good Morning All,
I have not been here for a few days as i needed to take some me time!
We had quite a lot of snow last night and it is really cold, i think i will light the wood burner before much longer. I need to make a clootie dumpling this morning so we will have a proper winter warmer for puddings.
I have my usual Wednesday list of chores to get through.
Have a happy, warm and safe day,
Regards:j0 -
Morning, we had a slight snow fall last night just a dusting on thr ground. The sun is out so I guess it will not last for long.
Trip into town to the library, put a script into the chemist and a quick foray into Morrisons for OH's yogurt and the TV Choice.0
