Council parking ticket - Ringo mistake

Holdonia
I parked on a pay and display street in Kingston, where I park everyday. I use Ringo every time, but as I was running late I failed to check that I selected the correct registration and accidentally used my wife's registration.
When I returned I had been issued a ticket for £110, reduced to £55 if paid in 14 days from the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames council.
Contravention code 12
Parked in a residents or shared use parking place or zone without either clearly displaying a valid permit or voucher or pay and display ticket issued for that place or without payment of the parking charge.
I sent of an appeal immediately stating I had accidentally used the incorrect registration but had paid the £9 parking charge for the day. I included a screen shot of my Ringo payment history which showed me paying at the location on a number of occasions with both registrations.
I have now received a reply rejecting my appeal stating it is the responsibility of the driver to provide the correct vehicle registration and location details when requested to do so on the Ringo system. Failure to provide the correct information will result in the vehicle being parked without payment and a PCN will be issued.
They have kindly given me another 14 days to pay at the reduced rate. So now I have a dilemma. I can't afford to pay the £55 but if I appeal and lose I'll be stuck with a charge of £110.
So do I have a leg to stand on and should I appeal, or suck it up and pay the £55. I appreciate it's down to my own stupidity but surely it would be fair to waver the fine.
