in Credit cards
hey guys,
New here. It would be great to get some advice on the AmEx.
I currently have 3 CCs.
Building Society - £3k
Avios Reward - £750
123 Santander - £3.6K
Salary - £30k
I have a spotless credit history which I have held for just over 4 years.
I recently got approved for the 123. My borrowed credit stays below a third across my accounts at all times. I have been building my credit for over 4 years and it's spotless.
I am now looking to get approved for an Amex, preferably the Gold card.
How hard is it to get hold of one? What are peoples past experiences with applying for amex?
Thanks

Nobody can really tell until you apply and find out. If you've always made payments in full, you'll find it easier to get one. They could turn you down for a variety of reasons though.
If you're not planning on applying for any big credit products soon, I'd apply and find out.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Thanks for your reply.
I only got approved for the 123 CC on saturday. I am planning to wait around 6 months before I apply for the amex.
What are your thoughts on applying now rather than later?0 -
Don't forget that it's a charge card, unless you're going for their credit card
You have to be disciplined in that payments are payable in full. Tip, if you are paid monthly, apply during the last week of the month, that way the payment due date falls during the first few days of the month. Also I tend to pay it off each week but last month I paid it off just before payday but they collected the DD so I'm now a few k in credit lol0 -
I was recently accepted for the platinum cashback card with very similar circumstances, credit history and salary with a recent search on my file. You're probably in with a shot. You don't really know until you apply.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0

A quick call to them would also allow you to change payment date if the one on application is not suitable.0 -

Almost any CC provider will change your statement/payment dates if you phone up and ask, provided that the two are the correct amount of days apart (i.e. no more than 56 days from the first day of a billing cycle to the day you pay it).Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. For Chargecards AmEx supposedly dislike people riding outstanding balances.
When I first applied I had about a 50% utilization rate with it all being on 0% cards and it was rejected. 2-3 months later after clearing virtually all of the above I reapplied and was accepted for a charge card.0 -
Interesting.
I have less than 5% utilisation at the moment.
I have the dual Avios Lloyds cards, which is mastercard + amex.
When I go and apply for the actual american express card they will ask if I already have an amex card, can I put this down?0 -
It depends what they are asking
You have a card on the AmEx network but the card issuer is Lloyds. Most the time if they ask about your other cards they ask about issuers rather than networks but AmEx may be different.0 -

No. From my experience they only want to know about cards issues by Amex themselves. Lloyds will be underwriting the duo card themselves they just issue you with an Amex and a MC.0
