Road resurfacing

hi i am not sure if this is the right place to post this... but when a council decide to resurface a road. Apart from putting up signs warning this are they supposed to carry out surveys ie like environmental impact and health and safety. many thanks

Yes, If your living in the middle of the road they wont bother until you move or they have you moved.

Enviromental impact? You want them to turf the road and plant trees?

Still a bit confusing, we had our road resurfaced a year ago a week of inconvenience for some, but worth it afterwards, unless you are in the business, the surface may look ok to you, our road did.
Anyways, they way they do it, is either work during the day or at night, but not usually 24hrs on the same section of road, They well notify the residents, so that they can make arrangements to reduce any inconvenience.

What sort of problems do you have in mind?

As above, you would get more sensible answers if you explained the context rather than asking vague hypothetical questions.

Worst case they close the road for a few days. They will put signs up beforehand.

You need to elaborate.

You've clearly got a particular circumstance in mind, so why not just give us enough information to answer the question, rather than making us guess?

First off, what sort of "resurface" are you talking about? Just a tar-and-chippings topping? Proper scraping off of the old surface and re-laying? Or a full-fat upgrade and change of the surface - from what to what?

IME, for repairs/utillities they seldom bother informing anyone, if its a contractor doing the work you may get a letter through the door but its just window-dressing.

In fact, a few months back, I came home to find the road closed and glowing red where a contractor had botched a repair and taken-out the electricity without telling anyone. That meant a twelve mile detour and an argument with the police who had closed the road at the other end:



At other times I've had seen the road closed at no notice, requiring a massive detour and come out in the morning to find them digging-up the pavement, drains, other utilities - including just two days after a full resurfacing, all with no notice and a lot of inconvenience. Never mind the times they blocked us in with vehicles, piles of materials, cones/tapes etc etc :mad:

The only times I've had any sort of advance information was when they replaced the sewer or rebuilt the junction at the end of the road - both of which went-off in a significantly different way/timescale to the original promises and nobody ever picked-up the complaint line. :mad:

Then there was the unannounced train movement at the peak of the morning rush hour - that was fun:



Oh and the three months of moving wind farm components last year - at least they kept that mostly to night time!

Oh and the 48 tons of rotting fish - but that was a genuine accident. The poor souls needing rescued from the bottom of it got the worst! :eek:

Any competent contractor will have assessed the Health and Safety and Environmental risks in advance of the works, and indeed will have had to book the roadspace if they are obstructing it.

As others have said, without any detail it's hard to see what you want to know.

Is it that someone in the road has a medical condition that may require emergency access? If so I'd suggest speaking to the supervisor. They have a job to do, but they're only human and will do what they can to accomodate your requirements.
