Help holiday delay

Need some help.
Was delayed 25 hours on a Neilson ski holiday, have been fobbed off by Thomas cook on the flight delay, well they are taking their time and making us wait, but confident they will pay up.
My question is I booked a ski pack through neilson, it cost @ £400 and due to the delay I lost 2 days ski school, 1 day lift pass and 1 day equipment hire, my insurance says im not covered for this as it was due to a flight delay.
Neilson say - it's nothing to do with them and I need to take up with thomas cook, as the flight delay was not their fault.
Where do I stand I just want 1/6 of the costs back, on top of the standard compensation due to the delay (400 euro).
Is this correct, should I pursue Thomas cook or does neilson have an obligation as the tour operator and package holiday operator.o

Was this following the impact of the very bad weather in France a few weeks back when roads, rail and transport infrastructure struggled to cope?
If your 25 hours delay was down to the Thomas Cook flight being delayed all that time then you should have received a 'duty of care' such as refreshments, meal, and perhaps accommodation. A weather delay would not however automatically give you rights to financial compensation if that is what you are after.
If the start of your holiday was delayed 25 hours because of a combination of a smaller flight delay, perhaps a diversion to another airport, a longer transfer - all because of this snow storm then the matter is not so clear cut and I doubt you would receive compensation for things like missing a day of ski school or wasted equipment hire. It's unfortunate but not really a fault of the airline or tour operator.
If however this is was caused just by the flight delay and you feel EU261 compensation is payable then this compensation should cover your losses in resort.0 -

no it was a fault on the plane, the weather was fine, took 9 hours to fix then an aborted take off, allegedly according to the pilot when we flew home he said there was no actual fault found with the plan, we took off on the sunday following a further 2 hour delay.0 -
meant to add, after initially a bad experience they put us up overnight at a nearby hotel, but in total we took off 25 hours late!
The thought it was a fault with the oxygen on the plane but apparently not.
I'm led to believe the EU legislation covers this type of event.0 -
it does indeed, there is a separate board for this and you will find the Thomas Cook thread hereI'm led to believe the EU legislation covers this type of event.

I would think you have very good grounds to claim on EU261 although they still might put up a fight.
I'm not sure you would get more back unless Neilson are able to claim anything back from their supplier of the ski packs. If so it would be 'a gesture of goodwill' rather than any right to have further compensation.
You might want to see if your insurance will pay out a small amount for a delayed departure. It won't likely be much but something in addition to the stipulated EU amount.0 -
Did you book with a travel agent or direct with Neilsons ?
If you used an agent, they may be able to help you sort this out. If you booked direct with Neilsons then your issue is with Thomas Cook airlines and you need to deal directly with them.
Good luck.0
