Faulty goods bought online

Hi
I bought a pool table online for my son for Christmas and when we tried to assemble it on Christmas Eve a piece didn't fit. I emailed the company to advise and got a reply on 29th December asking for pictures which I sent. They replied on 12th January saying they were asking the manufacturer to send a replacement part and I have still not received the part. I would prefer a refund so I can go somewhere else but not sure what my rights are and how to enforce them?
Any help gratefully received!
Thanks
Lisa

When did you buy the item? You have a reasonable period after purchase to inspect the goods to check they conform to contract. If they don't then you can reject them for a refund.
Once the reasonable period has passed the shop can repair or replace, whichever is cheapest.
The 12th January is quite a long time ago, what has happened since then?0 -
Thanks for your reply!
I ordered the goods on 15/11 and they arrived about 10 days later. We opened them on Christmas eve to assemble them and I emailed them straight away on Christmas eve to advise of the problem. They replied on 29/12 and I advised I was away on holiday and would send the pictures when I returned which I did on 08/01. I then chased them on 12/01 and they replied saying they had contacted the manufacturer. I chased on 16/01 and they replied saying they had chased and then came back saying the manufacturer was awaiting parts but I should receive something the following week. I've not heard from them since!0
