Orange mobile default not my fault

A few years ago I made a payment to orange mobile by cheque, the payment cleared the bank (it was the full bill amount), however orange credited the payment to the wrong amount. Orange subsequently employed a debt collection agency as they disputed the debt had been paid. I contacted my bank who provided a copy of the cheque clearly showing the payee as Orange with the correct account on it for the correct amount. /Orange then cancelled the debt but I had to pay the agency (I did this to get them off my back), however as a result of this tiny amount which was paid on time, I can not get any credit as my perfect credit score is damaged. Is there any way to have this removed. I am sure if this was made public orange would receive adverse publicity. Any advice greatly appreciated as orange have not done anything to help. Orange appear to have washed their hands of it.

Who reports the default to your credit file?
When is it dated?
You need to complain to whoever reported it, in writing, stating that unless this gets resolved you will be escalating this matter to the Ombudsman. Get proof of posting.
Ask for a copy of their complaints procedure.:beer:0 -
The DCA was Oranges problem - you should not have paid. Further, if Orange did clear the debt when you provided proof, it is them who have the power to remove any erroneous information. Go to them quickly before they are wound up and the records archived for good.0
