H&M and returns

My understanding is that OP was given a courier collection 2 day slot of Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 8am to 6pm but as the courier had not turned up by 3pm on the Saturday, OPs friend took the goods to the local H&M store for a refund at that time, rather than OP continuing to wait in until 6pm.Poppie68's post is spot on - the OP has a duty to mitigate their losses, if waiting in was going to cause them a loss then they had alternative options to return.
I'm still not understanding the 3pm on Saturday comment that has now been magically deleted ...0 -
Re-read the initial post. H&M failed to pick up the item within the 48 hour window specified.0

That is the final conclusion.
What should I write to H&M to receive the compensation?0 -

You need to work out what your exact losses were. From what you have posted it is only the trip to the shop your friend took. So the cost of a bus fare? Is there any other cost you incurred by having to wait in?
If you approach H&M in a polite way, you may also get a goodwill payment for inconvenience.0 -
What should I write to H&M to receive the compensation?Order no. 123-456-789Dear Sirs,
I waited two days on xx and yy of January for your courier to collect the goods I was returning.
The courier didn't turn up during the allotted time.
I had no option but to return the goods to my local store instead.
The cost of me doing this was £x.xx and I enclose the bus tickets showing this.
I look forward to your cheque for £x.xx.
Yours
