Credit Card

Credit Card transfer virgin I'm afraid :embarasse I recently obtained a Barclaycard credit card, through the help of this site :-) I was happy with the balance transfer I completed and was happy about the 0% interest for 35 months. However I used the card to buy a pair of boots, will this have an effect my 0% interest? I can send the boots back if need be. I'm just slightly worried that I'll have to pay out more money if I keep them, rendering my money saving move unsuccessful. Thanks for the help

It won't affect the 0% rate on the balance transfer.

However you will be charged interest on the purchase from the date of the purchase to the date you repay the purchase (you don't get the up to 54days interest free on purchases that a customer who clears the balance in full each month would get).

For a one off small purchase presumably thats only going to be a very small amount of interest in this instance.

  • Did you not get the 6 months 0% interest on purchases?
  • Thanks for the info Tixy :-) It was only 0% on balance transfers wrighty1967.

for this small purchase the interest will be small so no harm done but the general advice is to not mix purchases and BTs on the same card as they don't have the same terms and you can get caught out. Just pay the boots in full at the end of the month - even if this is more than the minimum payment. A tiny bit more interest may trail along next month and then you should be clear. For BT cards I do the transfer and then put the card somewhere safe where I won't be tempted to use it. Get a 0% on purchases card (if you can) for purchases or just use debit card / cash if not.

  • I think you will find if you have the 35 month b/t you also get 0% on purchases for the first 6 months.
