Good afternoon all,

Recently moved in to my new place and the boiler has now packed up. Its 23 years old and ive been told the PCB has gone.

Ive been given the following quote

The boiler is a Glow-Worm flexicom 15hx

Charge for boiler and installation £1700 with 5 year guarentee or £1900 for 10 years.

Or £320 to replace the PCB and have it repaired. Is this worth it considering the age of it?

I really have no idea regarding boilers so if i can get some reassurance this price is reasonable that would he brilliant.

Thank you
:j

Planning for my future early

Given the prices quoted by some people on here, those are very good prices.

Who is the guarantee with; the manufacturer or installer? I assume that this guarantee is dependant on annual servicing carried out by an approved fitter? if so at what cost?

    P.S.

I didn't think many 23 year old boilers had a PCB.

Was thinking the same thing Cardew.

What is the make and model of the boiler?

See if you can get a replacement PCB. Chances are it will be one component that has failed due to age. Or a fuse on it has popped. The PCB may easily be a handful of things and not what you'd consider one now.

A lot of gas people don't want to look after older boilers. They just tell you something has broken as they want to sell you a new one. Make sure they prove what they say.

Amazon have one listed potentially for your model for £95: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Glowworm-0020023825-Main-PCB/dp/B006J3RWQW

Isn't that PCB for the new glowworm boiler that he has been given the £1700 quote to be fitted?
