Help!!!

because of the postal strike we never recieved a advice note from natwest letting us know of intrest that would be going on to our account. because of this we are now overdrawn and face a £28 charge. natwest refuse to take the charge off as they say the strike is out of their hands. who is responsible for the charge? we are determined not to pay it as we never recieved the advice note and therefore had no incling that the interest was going to be taken out of the account otherwise we would of made sure there was money there to cover it.

But surely you must of known that interest was going on to your account? It would be in the terms and conditions.

Do you not have online banking?

and that is helpful how? Why do people have to be OTT when it comes to grammar. For heaven sake it is a chat board , not just for academic nerds.

if they change a charge the whole point of the letter is to notify you. Everyone was awake of the potage strike so the bank should of been aware that their letter may have not gotten to you in time.
You can say that you would have covered it if you had known about the interest and speak straight to your local bank manager and always be nice but firm. If you get mean or start shouting they will start to defend themselves. If they feel at ease with you they are more likely to 'feel sorry' for you and take the charge off. :)

You don't have to an academic nerd to have good grammar!!

If every day the service in a store deteriorates just a little, then through time the service gets worse. It then becomes the norm.
Same with grammar - deteriorating spelling through time and before you know it no one can spell properly.

And i think one of the rules states that you should refrain from name calling.

    I wouldn't say 'academic nerd' is name calling:rolleyes: .

Surely the ethos of MSE is to make it available for all, whatever background someone comes from. Not everyone can spell or understands the use of 'proper grammar'.

If certain individuals insisted on correcting other people's grammar and spelling in their posts, then it would make them not want to post again. That would be a shame. I can remember Martin saying that it doesn't matter if someone does not have the grasp of proper English, we should still encourage them to post.

    ampersand,

I do hope my grammar in the following sentence is good enough for you:

When people post on here asking for advice they don't expect to be patronised and treated with condescension. It's a pity you haven't got the manners to realise that. You probably have very low self-esteem and it makes you feel better by belittling others. Please treat people with respect in future.

This is an open forum where everybody has the right to post their own opinions/advice whether it's agreed with or not.

I think it's a feeble excuse for the OP to be surprised at being charged for going overdrawn (or was it exceeding your agreed limit) and then to try and blame everybody but themselves is astonishing.
Why is it the banks fault ? Wht is it the fault of the PO ? You spent the money you didn't have, nobody else.

Unfortunately pmg24 was not the person asking for advice.
Only darich has correctly read what was lightly, politely said - not patronisingly, not condescendingly, belittling no-one and writing with respect for people and language.
But perhaps Emma37 has forgotten her own reply of recent days,

You're right, it should be Lewis's. It's a common mistake.
