I've merged two threads here and if I can find the other similar threads I'll add them as well. I suspect there will be more and more people asking about the new Amazon selling requirements as each batch of sellers gets approached.

They're actually changing quite a bit to accounts, both individual and professional. Some updates appear to be beneficial.
I recently opened a new business account, the details they require to prove you are a business were tricky. Needed something dated within 3 months to prove you were a business. In the end I just called HMRC and asked for a new VAT certificate, the online ones weren't proof apparently.

I keep getting nagging emails from amazon asking me to log on to my sellers account in order to create some sort of additional account with them.

The information in this thread has been very helpful.

I am just a small seller, so I don't have a business or VAT number, and my passport runs out in June! I don't know whether to bother continuing to sell on amazon or whether to just stick to EBay. Some items do sell better on amazon though..

I have just sold my one and only item I had for sale on Amazon - they now want credit card details - I don't have a credit card nor any of the cards they mention - I can't seem to get past the page they ask for the card details. Does anyone know how I can contact them please?

I am surprised they allowed a seller account to be opened without a card, it seems a bit of an odd thing for them to do. Amazon are very strict about the credit card requirement.

There should be a contact us button somewhere on their site map though, or even on your seller page - they might have just not made it obvious.

Get one. Pockit.com, costs you 99p and put £1 on it, Amazon will take off the pound and then refund in a couple of days. Also, most debit cards work with Amazon.

I have a card but it's a maestro card and it doesn't seem to be accepting it.
    Thank you for the replies.
  • I've contacted Amazon several times about this , but still haven't had a reply .

I phoned and told them I didn't have a passport , and they said that a special dept. would advise me , they then sent me an email link for this dept. and I email them and ask them what to do . . . and no reply .
it's been weeks , I've rang Amazon a couple of times but they just say I have to wait for that dept. to email me .

Even thoug I am not a business seller, Amazon don't appear to have an option for individuals on their Amazon Payments registration page, so I had to register as a sole trader, giving them my UTR.

As I had to phone HMRC about something else, I mentioned this and the Tax man told me that I'm not the only one to have had this issue and that unless I'm buying stuff to seel-on, I don't need to do anything Tax-wise.

I challenged Amazon on this when this came out, and they got back to me and said it was EU regulations.

I asked could they tell me specifically what regulation required them to see a passport and driving licence. They could not provide this info.

I then asked them as that as a passport was a photo ID and this would normally viewed with me present at border control, why they needed photo ID without the holder present. They agreed they did not need a passport.

I still sell on Amazon, and have never given them my passport info, and will not do so.

I trust Amazon up to a point, but the passport requirement has been invented by Amazon (or more charitably they have mis-interpreted the regs) and I simple will not do it out of principle.

They can easily validate with credit reference agencies - if it's good enough for banks its good enough for Amazon.
