Who can I talk to

I am retiring from the public sector after thirty years. My wife and I want to buy a bed and breakfast business. Where should I go for advice? I need to ask questions on:
loans/mortgage.
Tax implications on buying and then selling in the future.
Tax questions in general
Numerous other questions
Is ther a one stop shop like a business advice centre or should I go to a lender then an accountant?
I'm thinking of relocating to Scotland, does this have its own problems/implications.
Many thanks

  • I would imagine a good accountant would be the best one stop shop for the sort of query you are describing.

Yes an accountant is probably the best person to go to. However, accountants need a brief so they know what services to bill you for. Maybe some accountants here could advise you on what such a brief could be.
Some accountants might give you some initial free advice if they know there is a good chance of getting long-term business from you but since you are re-locating, I assume, quite a distance away there could be a problem there.

An accountant would be my first port of call, too.

As Mistral says, you'll probably get the initial time for free if you can show you're serious.

If you look up Starting a Business on gov.uk there are links to local Enterprise organisations.

I googled B&B owners forum, and there are a few associations like this.
I don't know what they're like but may be worth a look.
