DPS--Single claim process

If I were to enter into a single claim process against a tenant, using the DPS.
It states
" The claiming party completes the Declaration* and
sends it back to The DPS, stating the amount and reason/s
for which they are claiming; this must be witnessed by a Solicitor,
Commissioner for Oaths or Magistrate".
Am I allowed to claim the additional expense (from the tenants deposit) incurred by getting one of the above professionals to witness the declaration, if so, how?
Many Thanks

Hmm, I think the cost of having a solicitor witness your signature would be a grand total of £5... (plus paper and stamp to send it back to DPS).
Whether you could claim such considerable cost from the deposit (or from the tenant in general) would depend on your tenancy agreement, IMHO.0 -
£5.00 + paper and stamp is an expense I do not see that I should carry, given that a tenant hasn't given a forwarding address to either myself or the DPS.
But, if jjlandlord wishes to make a donation, you are most welcome to.I am a LandLord,(under review) so there!:p0 -

Well don't pay & see what happens then. What does tenant providing a forwarding address or not do to the matter - are you saying if he had given address you'd be happy to pay? You'll appreciate he'll be easy to track down later, eh?
In business sometimes one spends money one would rather not in circumstances that you are uncomfortable about: But surely you knew that??
£5 to an agreed housing charity if you can get your tenant to pay.
