  • Ok we have poo touch down! Phew.

Thanks for your help everyone. Am obviously keeping a close eye and will be calling vets first thing Monday to get him seen same day.
  • so come on, so much anticipation, then no detail:)

Was it healthier looking? I won't go as far as to say we need pictures!

Haha no pictures sorry! But no, sadly it wasn't a healthier looking poo. Also caught him eating grass so he must be feeling poorly.

Hence why I'm gonna beg some time off work Monday to take him to the vets.
  • Just a bit of advice to avoid it being a wasted visit. If the poop is a bit runny, it might be worth trying to bag a sample for the vet for any tests that might want to do.

natures diet is good for sensitive tummys, very little ingredients but very balanced
  • My boy had coccidia when I rescued him, a horrid gut infection that was very stubborn to treat. I'm told its common in rescue dogs when they haven't had a great start to life (I know my boy didn't). We eventually got that sorted, took over 2 months, then all the food intolerences started!

It took me many months, about 6 months of trying different foods to find one he could cope with. He's allergic to gluten, wheat, maize, rice, corn, beef, lamb, salmon, venison, rabbit and pork. All give him absolutely chronic diarrhoea. :(

I'd tried all the hypoallergenic varieties of foods, and was at the point of just not knowing what I was doing wrong. I at the time didn't realise just how many dogs are allergic to the rice too.

Switched to Wainwrights Grain Free and since then, he's so much better. He still as the odd flare up if he even eats a tiny bit of something he shouldn't, but their food is definitely helping him. I add a bit of plain yoghurt or a tiny amount of Butchers tripe for flavour.

Since trying grain free, I've realised just how good it is for them. Is it an option for you? The 10kg bags are usually £37 but often on offer at £30, so I bulk buy then!

Hope you can get your boy healthy soon!
I just enter and forget...hoping to win something! :)
  • Just to update as I hate it when people don't!! I begged some time off work and got him to the vets this afternoon.

Basically she didn't know what was wrong and it was a question of eliminating the possibilities.

First on the agenda is different food. She has given me prescription gastro food. Try that for a week and see how he gets on. If no change then take a sample for testing and go from there!

  • I can suggest sweet potato. Bake one in the oven and it goes "squidgy". Peel off the skin and pulp some into their food or, as others might suggest, rice and cooked chicken. The sweet potato is a natural "firmer". It's also cheaper than most "prescription" foods/additives from vets.
  • As above sweet potato has helped with my dogs upset tums in the past. Boiled mashed and then mixed in with bland food (chicken and rice or scrambled egg)
A couple of spoonfuls does the trick.
I freeze the left over sweet potato for future use.
Naturediet trays also seem to be ok with my rescue dog after much trial and error! Chappie worked for a while but he wasnt keen on it and was losing weight.
