My Jan gas bill was crazy high as well, then I remembered it included xmas/ kids' holidays and it all made sense.0

I it's showing my gas meter reading as 3835 instead of 3475 I submitted???? !!!!!!??
So what is your meter reading now? Normally, supplier's systems will reject out-of-the ordinary readings. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The likely reason that it's rejected your reading is because the system does not believe that you could be using so little energy. Are you sure that you are on the best tariff for such a low consumption? You might be better with no standing charge tariffs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I didn't think 195 units of gas over 59 days is low?
It's only a two bedroom flat with two people who have full time job so I guess it's low usage compared to a average household.
I will investigate to see if no standing charge tariff would make much difference.

Hi keejoonc and welcome to the Forums.
Already some great advice on here. Thanks guys. Thought I'd add a couple of things.
It's good you're taking regular meter readings. This will help build up a picture of the ongoing usage.
As WillowCat says, comparing the usage at different properties can be difficult as a number of things might vary. This includes things like heating arrangements, levels of insulation, time of year, appliances etc. Comparing an all electric property with a gas and electric set up is particularly difficult.
To be honest, 195 cubic metres or 2184 kWh doesn't sound too excessive at this time of year for the type of property described. Regular readings will help you understand how the gas is being used.
Is the bill you mention based on an estimate of 3835 or your reading of 3475? I'm guessing but, as you only joined us in December, we'll have been sent the usage history for the past 12 months. Part of this will be based on the occupants before you took over last October. Sometimes, as Hengus says, readings are rejected if out of line with what's expected from past usage.
Could be your reading has been rejected and replaced with an estimate based on past history. If the previous occupants had a different lifestyle, this estimate might be way out.
Don't worry, this can soon be sorted but you'll need to talk to us and let us have an up to date reading. Until put right at our end, you won't be able to alter online. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer. I'll be happy to take a look.
Once the billing has been put right and when you've a minute, have a look at some ideas on our website to help you save money by saving energy. There's some great tips.
We no longer have any No Standing Charge tariffs. Can't speak for the other suppliers though.
Sorry for the confusion with the readings keejoonc and if my speculation is way off track but hope this helps point you in the right direction.
