Heaters for village hall

Mornin' all
Can anyone recommend some heaters for a freezing village hall? It has one main room, with very high ceilings (was the old school room), and a couple of smaller ones. It is rarely used in winter, and if it is needed for meetings, I have to go up and put on an array of small domestic fan heaters a few hours in advance, then sit there as I wouldn't like to keep them on without supervision, just to keep the temp reasonable, though its never warm - at least it keeps parish council meetings short!
However we really do need a better system than this. As it's so damp, something that could be left on always, at a low level would be good, but probably hugely expensive, alternatively a heater that could be put on to really blast the hot air around for a shorter period of time would be great.
There's no gas in the area.
Would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Sure to be an expert along soon but in the meantime I would have thought you are stuck with a solution that uses electricity, which is expensive as we all know. Something providing ongoing low level heat (if electric) will cost a bomb and if the building is mostly empty......
Presumably you cannot accomodate your meetings in the smaller rooms available?
Infrequent use of the building in winter rules out some form of timer driven solution unless you can program it to come on at preset dates and times (to coincide with your meetings).
I have never had to use one but there are high output 'industrial' fan heaters that you can buy. If you can use one of the smaller rooms (should heat up quite quickly) one or two of those heaters might do the trick. They aren't that expensive - rated 3kw.
If you have high ceilings throughout, you may still end up heating the roof space. Fall back options: wool jumpers and hot soup or (for me) the local pub and see if you can cut a deal with the landlord!
good luck,

This might help you to calculate the size of heater you need.
My other half says that you can get heaters that duct into the hall with diesel in a tank next to the heater.
Hope this helps.De cluttering Konvert.Getting there

If its got a high ceiling and you'd struggle to heat the whole space, perhaps look at radiant, infrared type heaters that direct the heat down into the room.0

You might want to look at a mixture of low-power electric heaters just to keep the damp off, and halogen heaters to warm the people up when the hall is in use.
Alternatively, you can get some monster space heaters that run on propane gas. But you wouldn't want to leave one unattended. See, for example https://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/search/filter/space-heaters-workshop-heaters/type/any/module/shopcategory/page/1If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Infra red heater mounted above the seating area would do the trick.0

Just to say a big thank you for the help with this. They would like to follow up the infrared heating ideas, probably 4 wall mounted that will angle downwards.
Unfortunately the smaller rooms in the hall can't be used as they have no doors so open into each other, so it's easier to warm the larger room, also one of these days we may even have more than a handful of local residents attend!!
Again, thanks all. DS
Oh yes, and PS Chunks, sadly it's not allowed to hold a Parish Council meeting where alcohol is sold!!0
