About 3 /4 months ago ,having been loaned a pc ,I took advantage of the 30 day free trial from aol.unfortunately it was a disaster-i spent more time waiting to get reconnected than i did online .2wks in i wrote to aol in ireland and cancelled. ages later i got a letter of confirmation, which i've now lost???? anyway'they've billed 2 months running and claim that no cancellation notice was ever passed to account dept. anyone else had trouble? am now writing to customer services and i'm cancelling further payments at the bank.

That's awful, what a shame.
I'm with Aol and I've always found them to be excellent service, and dead helpful.
In fact when I had connection probs they gave me anothe rmonth free.
Yes do what you suggest, and I'm sure it'll all be sorted for you in no time at all.
I'm sorry you had a rotten time, I wish everybody enjoyed the web with aol as much as I did.
Take heart though, lots of people hate aol, so it's not just you. My techie friend keeps telling me to get rid as they'll upset my pc.
It doesn't seem very upset, but you know how some people hide their sadness.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
I used to be with AOL, no problems at all with them.
If you have not used the AOL connection since the trial period they will see that on their computer system, so it should be no problem with your explanation. They have a freephone number on one of their trial discs, so phone it up & explain. Also if you want to cancel an account they are not like all the other cowboys out there (28 days notice in writing etc). Just call them up freephone of course.

I have always found AOL to be helpful. If you want to cancel their number is
0800 376 4407. They will probably refund the months you havent used.
I have tried others, but have always found AOL to be number 1!0 -
I had an AOL trial a while ago and found them to be implementing sharp practice, difficult to cancel and charges coming from items in small print, not illegal just not very " gentlemanly". I wouldnt use them againAha, so thats how you do a signature!0

AOL are great until you want to cancel. They did that to me as well, Catford.
I cancelled my direct debit with them after 4 months of them being told I wanted to cacel, a couple of letters and even e-mails (whihc I was advised to do).
Anyway, a couple of months later I got a bill from them for £45. When I phoned up and asked what exactly they were playing at, they said it was for the last 3 months service as I had cancelled my DD.
When I told them that I had in fact been using a different service provider from the day I cancellled my DD (which I could prove), they then told me that they continued my service for 3 months!!!
After staring at the phone in disbelief for a few seconds I asked them why they did so if I hadn't paid for it? Mores the point, could they prove I had used it?
They replied that they give their 'best customers' some grace in case there's a problem. When I informed them that in fact I didn't arrive on the last yellow-fruit freighter, they then went on to say that they could see there was no activity on my account and this is why they continued my service!!!
By now I was wondering if it was all a bad dream or if maybe I had the date wrong and it was in fact April 1st!
A deep breath later and I simply said that I wasn't paying it. I had cancelled my DD and clearly there was no account activity, therefore I shouldn't have to pay for something I didn't even use.
The creature at customers mis-services said quite curtly that they had provided the service and it wasn't their problem that I didn't use it.
I told 'it' that I had no intention of paying and when she said that it would be passed to a debt-collection agency if I chose to ignore the reminders, I pointed out that if they bothered me any more then I'd have no choice but to seek legal advice.
Guess what...
Heard nothing more from them!Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -
I had the same problem about 5 years ago, so thats how long they've been ripping people off, maybe longer. Wonder how much extra money they have managed to rip off!0

I had two free months trial with them, cancelled by free phone number without a problem and they even offered me a deal at £9-99 a month for connection 22 hours a day.
Could`nt fault them but did`nt stay with them.0
