Lead water mains pipe replacement

Hi

We have low water pressure and have lead pipes on main to house, so not sure if its a slight leak? House built late 1960's, we have cover with British Gas Homecare would this cover the cost of the replacement of the lead pipe to plastic?

  • Hmmmm... leaks are possible. Best to check with neighbours and see what their pressure is like..

Some places just have terrible pressure.

I wouldn't think BG would cover that sort of work for their monthly fee..

I think you are meant to take out insurance with your water company incase of a leak at the main tap feeding into the property.

Also, sometimes the taps inside of the property get stiff over the years and sometimes don't open properly, so if you have a very old tap on the lead pipe it make be restricting some flow.

Hi I andv! We had to have our pipes replaced as they were lead, the water company are responsible up to the meter, luckily ours is just outside our front door, don't know where yours is located? They quoted £400 to replace from there into the house, although that was rerouting it round to the back which is about 25ft. Not sure if you bg would cover it though!

I thought it was included in British Gas homecare plumbing and drains cover?

A few years ago I had a lead mains, I contacted my water company who sent someone down to test the lead content in the water. As it was over a certain limit they replaced the lead mains free of charge.

I tried it again on another property but this time the lead reading was not high enough so they would not pay for it.

It's worth a phone call to see if this still applies.
