Really why do people have to be so rude. This is a genuine question and in my opinion people are being rude and negative. When I posted my first post people were rude and make me feel stupid and degraded. I think people need to learn how to have some people skill and how to answer a question with respect for the person asking the question even if it goes against what the OP opinion.

Not all post are rude and some have constructive criticism.

    Rude or just blunt?

OP wants compensation because the bank bent their rules to give him a CC - he could have refused it. He could not have used it. The card gave him 2 clear benefits - S75 protection for purchases and up to 56 days interest free on payments. He used the card so it was clearly useful.

Now he wants compensation but has not identified any reason why he feels he should get it. Compensation is for material loss as a result of an incident.

As an example I got £25 from my bank (without asking I would add) because they failed to cash 1 of 2 cheques I deposited in an ATM in the same envelope - the value of the cheque was small but if it meant a payment I was making bounced I would have a material loss - I could justifiably ask for compensation for the fees.

What has the OP lost as a result of being given this card? If he can demonstrate some issue then he could ask for compensation, if he wants money because they gave him a CC that he agreed to then he is just being greedy.

Student accounts often have credit cards without the limits associated with mainstream accounts.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You can't mis-sell something that has no cost to obtain - if you had never used the card there would have been nothing to pay.

Some of us have people skills, others among us have financial skills.

    The two don't always overlap.

You're looking in the wrong place if you want a forum filled of those with good people skills. You'll find more of the latter here.

Did you end up graduating? I love how people come over all innocent and missold. So many people are missold things they use straightaway.

I find the lack of personal responsibility by a lot of posters on this forum pretty shocking.

OP - you knew what a credit card was right? You knew you were borrowing and it would need to be paid back? You knew that if you didn't pay off straight away that you would be charged interest?

Or is this another case of the big nasty bank tricking you?
  • I expect many students will come to think they were missold their university education.... and actually I have more sympathy with that one!

I certainly was more naive then.
I don't think much has changed.
