If you look on all the local pages they are full of these types of jobs - eveyone wants something for nothing these days - that's why I think it's up to the applicant to not apply or negotiate for better pay. I don't know if it's illegal x

Oh and just to clarify - I don't post any jobs that aren't from reputable websites - I wouldn't class gumtree as a reputable recruitment site :-)

The problem is, for someone desperate, any income is better than none. It's partly for this reason we have minimum wage laws to protect us from exploitation. If you are promoting jobs paying below minimum wage you are certainly acting immorally, regardless of the legality.

Also, if you are promoting jobs, you SHOULD know whether what you are promoting is legal or not.

As stated before I do not promote jobs paying under minimum wage.

It's not even promoting, it's listing all local vacancies in one place and has actually been very helpful to many people.

If you read my post you will see I am talking about other pages and the adverts placed and not the specific page I post on but thanks for your input. I meant that I don't know if one off job requests are illegal.

A lot of these positions state you will be self employed in which case you are exempt from the minimum wage laws but I am not saying that makes it right merely that there is a definite growth in that market.

I run the page in my spare time for no financial gain, I also have the support of charities that help people gain skills, create c.v's and with all aspects of job hunting. The area where I live has been seriously hit with a decline in industry and any page that can help people find employment is a worthwhile idea.

None of the jobs I have ever posted have been below minimum wage although I am shocked at the rate that some of the larger companies pay!
