Appears to be in a private house so minimum wage legislation does not apply. And it also specifies a female, which in the workplace would be discrimination. At £5 per hour it might appeal to someone, but it's well below a decent wage, even with no tax to pay, and just encourages low wages per se.
  • contact number on ad searched, came up with a similar ad from 2 years ago..

"I am a working mum who needs a little hand at home...
Cooking/cleaning and taking kids to school each morning within walking
Distance....will need references and crb check plz call.."

    no mention of wages, tho!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)

Why would it be ok to pay less than min wage in a private house?

    The mind boggles.

Has the workplace sunk this low.

For those in the know is someone who took up this 'position' potentially breaking tax laws anyway if no declaration of income is made.

I'm presuming no income of any sort in that tax year.

She's missing a trick. Surely she could get unemployed people on Workfare to do this for free.
  • Where does it say if private house that NMW does not apply? I can only see mention of this of they live in the household.

Far be it from me but the obvious category is self employed.

    Mind you-whatever that might be.

  • I run a local jobs page on Facebook which posts the links to local vacancies. There are loads that come up on gumtree, personally I think this is a little different.

At the end of the day it's really up to the candidate what they would be willing to work for, I wouldn't apply but in the same vain there are lots of people looking for one off jobs to be done at nothing like the minimum wage and plenty of applicants. Putting up an aerial, fixing a washing machine etc.

I'm not normally one to worry about such things but surely some law must being broken here.
