                    Hi,
I sold an item on Ebay and posted with Royal Mail but they damaged the packaging so some of the contents fell out, meaning the buyer never received the full amount of what they paid for.
I would like to claim a refund from Royal Mail but the buyer has all the evidence. They don't want to send back they evidence as then they have no back up (e.g. I guess in case I try scamming or something) or but they also don't want to claim themselves from Royal Mail (which is what RM recommended).
What should I do? Should I give a part refund (minus the amount they received and postage) or should I send them some more? Also, if I send more, how to I track/log this on Ebay?
Thanks

Offer a full refund on return of the items, send return postage money to buyer for return.

Ask the buyer what they want. As long as they are realistic then do that.
If they want too much then ask them to return and refund them the cost + return postage.
Its the sellers job to chase RM for compensation not the buyers. The buyer has no contract with them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Thank. I'll ask them what they want. But I'll probs just refund.
According to RM, it would be the buyer who should claim as they are the ones with the evidence, unless they post it back and then it can be the seller. It is Ebay that say the seller should be the one that claims, RM say whoeve has the evidence can claim.0

Your contract is with Royal Mail - you make the claim.
But you are correct that Royal Mail will want to see the packaging, as if you have not wrapped it correctly, they will not give you compensation.
So you will need to make arrangements for the buyer to return it to you.0

Be careful when trying to claim from Royal Mail. I recently tried to claim for a parcel that I sold on eBay but went missing in the post and the buyer didn't receive it. I thought I had everything covered, I had the postage receipt and copies of the ebay listing and paypal transaction. However when I checked the small print on the RM claim form it says that I should also provide a receipt or something similar to show how much I PAID for the lost item originally.
This is the wording on the claim form:
 List B
For compensation, you must also provide:
Original proof of posting e.g Post Office® receipt (certificate of posting), On-Line postage receipt (stamped at Post Office®) or copy of Docket Book
Original proof of value if claiming for the contents, eg. till receipt, bank statement, etc
The damaged item and packaging (for damage claims only and where safe to do so)
In addition to the above, eBay claims must be accompanied by the item sale page and Paypal or bank/credit statement
 eBay item number
Without that all That all you get is a book of first class stamps.
 RM compensation claims are disgraceful!!!!!!0

How well was it packed? If on reflection it was not as good as it should have been it is probably not worth claiming anyway.0
