Removing Wallpaper from ceiling.

Need to remove some thin wallpaper from my ceiling. Some is peeling off fairly easily & other patches are a bit more stubborn & I am struggling with a scraper. I have quite a big area to to & I am of the opinion that wallpaper stripping is the most boring job in the world so trying to speed up the process.

Anyone any experience of this stuff:

we had to remove wallpaper from all of our ceilings last year. Only effective way is to use an wallpaper stripper but you'll need to be careful as you'll be using it overhead.

Alternatively, it's the good old fashioned way of soaking the paper and scraping it off :D

You could hire a steam stripper and try that. If paper's only thin and well stuck on you could paper over it which is what I did when getting old paper off would have been impossible in my lifetime. And the paper's still on.
Named after my cat, picture coming shortly
  • No dont want to paper over it. Have steam stripper but don't want to use it to strip ceiling as the hot water dribbles out of the end and down my of my arm.

Just going to dampen it with spray & then use scrapper. When I can be arsed!

    I HATE DIY

If you have long arms that will help.:D

There is a knack to using the steamer on the ceiling.

When your steamer is just about to hiss and spurt, place the steamer plate on a basin or bowl for 3 mins or so, that will get rid of the surplus water that will pour out along with the steam, then just place on the ceiling at an angle away from your face.

Failing that, score your paper, and either get some very hot soapy water and splash that on, really soak the paper, do a section at at a time, dont wet the whole ceiling.
Then go back another 2 times and soak again, the paper will come off really easy.

another tip....., instead of using fairy liquid in your soapy water, add some fabric conditioner, this will not only leave a nice smell, but will soften the paper much quicker and make it easier to strip.

    Happy stripping....:D
