How can I improve my credit score?

Hi,
I've had bad credit for a number of years. I once had a CCJ although this was definitely more than 6 years ago.
I'd really like to build my credit score but don't know how to. I can't get any credit in order to build it up.
Any advice?
Many thanks

A mobile phone contract, gas / electricity accounts, a sub-prime credit card, will all help improve your history. Make sure you always pay on time ( ideally by direct debit ), and particularly with a sub-prime card, make sure you pay the full amount every month - the interest charges will be astronomical if you don't.
And you don't have a "credit score" ( the number you'll see on Experian or whatever is meaningless ). What matters is your credit history - a track record of managing money responsibly, and paying all debts on time without fail. And not maxing-out cards, or always using your overdraft - these give the picture that you're struggling. Just use the card for everyday spending, and pay it off in full every month.0 -
Do you have any open credit accounts at all? (e.g. a bank account with an overdraft facility/ mobile phone / interenet contracts? utilities in your name?
Have you looked at copies of your credit reports from any/all of the 3 credit reference agencies to see what they are showing?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
