Getting deposit back from landlord..... Process?

Hi
We're getting ready to leave our rented house and approached landlady on how deposit gets returned etc. they started off as landlady etc but are now good friends - just to give you background
When we took the house it was six months ast via a letting agency but managed by landlady - after six months it just went onto rolling.
Landlady, bless her, said "no idea how it works as agency have deposit not me, I've never done it this way"
What she means is, in the past she's gone back to agency and they've sorted out the exit and a new tenant however in this case we found her a new tenant (another friend) and she's cutting the agency out.
I don't want to screw her over I just want to get the deposit back

Were you give the Prescribed Information (details of the deposit and where it is registered) at the start of your tenancy? If so read the PI and just claim the deposit back from whichever scheme it's protected with when your tenancy ends. Simples.0

I think I was yes - I just wasn't sure if I went to the contact or if the landlord did
Thanks0 -
You need to claim it back from the scheme and either the LL or LA need to release it depending on which one of them registered with the scheme (probably the LA in your case).0

1) check with each scheme (Deposits ) to see where it is registered
2) follow the scheme process to claim it
3) ask LL to contact scheme to instruct them to release it
4) if deposit is registered in agency name, LL will need to instruct agent to contact scheme and instruct them to release to tenant
5) once both sides have contacted the scheme, the deposit will be released
Of course, if th LL wishes to make deductions (ie for damage, rent arrears, cleaning etc) then
6) LL/tenant negotiate/agree amount of deduction
7) both sides contact scheme and instruct accordingly
If agreement on deductions cannot be reachd, tenant raises a dispute with the scheme.0
