LG tv about to go through the window

Got a 42" LG tv that I've had for just over 2 years.

Had problems with it within the first 6 months where it would start switching itself on at completely random times. Sometimes once, sometimes several times. Emailed LG and they suggested the usual workthroughs, and failing that they would bring it in for repair. I never bothered because of the inconvenience of it all and it wasn't a major isssue and seemed to go away. Or at least I thought it did. How I regret that.

Fast forward to about 4 months ago and not only does it switch on, it now also switches off. It also flashes up about selecting the input, even though it's selected etc. At one point it turned off about 35 times without exageration, during a football match.

I recently emailed LG and they said they might be able to offer a percentage to the repair once an engineer has identified the problem. I still need to arrange this.

However just now while watching a film, I got a really loud high pitched noise/beep/screetch in place of the sound and no matter what volume I turned it down to, the noise stayed exactly the same volume. It went off when I muted it. Turning the tv off and back on has fixed it (for now) but does anyone know what the hell this is/was? :undecided

Probably a fault with the TV but something that could be tried is to take the remote control handset out of the room to make sure it isn't giving out commands. Or maybe put a bit of black tape over IR sensor on the TV to make sure nothing external is affecting it.

We had our LG TV for about a week before it started playing up. An engineer replaced the motherboard and hard drive, but it still kept freezing and failing to record programmes (only the ones I really wanted to watch, of course).

Eventually a loud screech and a puff of smoke out of the back of it, and it only works in temperatures above 22 degrees celsius. Absolute piece of junk! I'd never buy an LG again! If I hadn't had to look after someone with a terminal illness, I would have insisted on them repeatedly repairing it until they either got it working or gave me a full refund.

At 2 years old I'd expect a repair or replacement FOC from the retailer.
