Faulty coat-Aldi say no return

Hi, I bought a coat in December and a couple of weeks ago the zip just stopped working. I have contacted Aldi who said as it is now outside of 60 days, my coat does not have an extended warranty and can not be returned. Am I right in thinking that I should be able to return this as two months is not a reasonable length if time for a product to last? This was their response
Thank you for taking the time to contact Aldi customer services.
Aldi provide a 60 day inspection period on all our products, customers are given the opportunity to exchange or refund an item under our no quibble guarantee.
After that time, if an item has an extended warranty you will need to contact the aftersales support helpline.
I am sorry to advise that this product does not come with any extended warranty, and it is after the 60 day inspection period. Therefore, Aldi would not be able to offer a return on this item.
Sorry for any inconvenience cause by this.
We hope you remain a valued Aldi customer.

Tell them thanks for the offer of a guarantee but i would rather use my rights under sale of goods, the item is not for for purpose and I shall be putting a Letter before Court action in the post by certified postage unless I hear by reply that you are going to honour the sale of goods.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

Surely if you bought it in December yu are still within the 60 days. Unless of course you bought it in the first couple of days of Decembermake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I bought it on dec 1st, so I am 1 day over the 60 days. That is my fault as I should have contacted them earlier but still, extended warranty or not, 61 days isn't really great usage from a coat.0

Any Guarantee they offer is an addition to your legal rights, not replacement of them.
You have the choice not them.
Sale of goods states it must be fit for purpose.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Also note that within the first 6 months from purchase the burden of proof is on the retailer to prove the item is not inherently faulty if they want to refuse a remedy.0

Thanks guys. I've never had to do this before and wondered if I had misunderstood the acts. Is this the usual tac retailers take? If I push referencing both acts will it make a difference?
I am more peeved with Aldi's attitude than the coat being faulty, I may think twice before buying any non grocery product again.0 -
I wouldn't say its the usual retailers tac. Some are better than others of course, but a retailer that attempts to make a consumer believe they have less rights than they do is committing an offence. Perhaps the staff member was just poorly trained and you will get better results by contacting someone else.0

So you havent actually been into the store...just emailed customer service?
You most probably would of got a positive response in store.. Take it in and ask to speak to the manager but don't mention your contact with CS.0 -
I will try that too. Thanks0
